Hello!

I was wondering if anyone knows if SUNY instructors have access to editing programs for free, such as Camtasia (https://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html), that can help enhance class instruction by editing videos far beyond what Windows Movie Maker and iMovies offer. As an online instructor, I incorporate all forms of media in order to break up the instruction for my students.

I find that Camtasia allows for an integrative approach to video-watching (direct video annotation, incorporated quizzes, zoom effects, etc.).

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

I use http://screencast-o-matic.com/ for screencasting and video recording. I have also used jing. I also use audacity with podomatic to edit audio and present audio (http://www.podomatic.com/playlist/alexandrapickett/),  and voicethread to add a little more .

Thanks for your f
...feedback, Alex! I find that the free versions of those programs don't allow for the editing features I need to provide the best instruction through video integration. (The storage cost alone through Screen Cast makes me feel a bit unsettled.)

I see that the RITE department offers Camtasia only for faculty/university devices...not for "at-home" use. As online instructors, we rely on our personal electronics to run and manage our courses. Was wondering if there's a way to get Camtasia funded for us.

I think of my videos as ephemeral and i don't script or edit them. one shot, no re-do's! I do edit the "ums" out of my audio though : ) I don't pay for any storage costs through screencast. I put everything on youtube or vimeo :) and embed it all in my course. my audio podcasts are also stored for free. I use the free versions of things mostly. :)

Alex, this is wonderfully helpful. Thank you!
