The Open SUNY COTE Quality Review Rubric is a dynamic 37-standard research-based online course quality rubric and process that includes a focus on the continuous improvement of online course design, produces an action plan, assists with prioritization of improvements, estimates amount of time to make improvements, offers suggestions and examples for improvements, accommodates the addition of standards, and is designed to be used in multiple ways: as a self-assessment, by an instructional designer and in a team or peer review process. An additional 37-standard accessibility rubric is also included.

Hi Christina,

We are happy to hear about your positive experience in the Instructional Designer Competency course, OSCQR: Open SUNY Course Quality Review...and also glad that you have joined this group.

In the spirit of continuous improvement, we will soon be acting on many of the suggestions that have emerged from the course's discussions:

  • annotating the accessibility standards with explanations and suggestions;
  • creating an "Introduction" page which addresses format, intent, etc.;
  • building upon the current annotations for the ID standards.

... among others.  We will be sure to invite you to the table, as some of these efforts will be collaborative with SUNY campuses.

Implementing the OSCQR Rubric and Review Process could very well be the way to creating and upholding a new higher quality standard for all online education. Although the rubric is still a work in process, I believe it is starting off in the right direction and can spark interest and desire among all online faculty to want to continue to create and provide the best and most accessible online courses they can. Being a part of the OSCQR: Open SUNY Course Quality Review course has been extremely helpful and a wonderful experience.

The "C" in OSCQR is for "COTE"

Just for the record... Is the "C" for C.O.T.E. or Course?  :)
