Hi All

I am working with a team at UB to offer an new program that I believe would be of interest to this community:

The Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo is pleased to announce the launch of the new, fully online Advanced Graduate Certificate (AGC) in Online Education. This program is comprised of five courses and can be completed in one year. Online education is the fastest growing education delivery model today.  This worldwide trend spans industry, the military and government agencies, higher education from community colleges through doctoral degrees, K-12 as well as the corporate environment.

The following two courses will be offered this fall:

LAI 639: Courseware Development

Description: This course examines strategies for developing effective online course content. A systematic approach to the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of instruction for online learners is emphasized. Students will be introduced to instructional design strategies and research findings pertaining to online teaching and learning, and will apply this information through the development of online instructional materials. Special attention is given to courseware development using web tools and learning management systems.

LAI 647: Online Educational Research

Description:  Knowledge and appreciation of scientific inquiry in online education; illustration of various strategies through study of online education research reports; technical aspects of the online education research process, including a review of common research strategies, conceptual and operational definitions of variables, data analysis, and interpretation of results.

Anyone wishing to transition into online teaching may be particularly interested in this program.  Eligible SUNY employees may wish to use their UUP tuition waiver to pay for the course.

An email listserv is simple.

On the one hand:
People like to respond easily from their email, people don’t like change, people like what they are used to, people don’t like it when you take something away.

On the other hand:
Locked in email, listserv discussions are closed to members and either lost, or tedious to search for and locate, and members new to the community have have nowhere to review past interactions.

An online community platform easily moves the linear dialogue of a listserv to more multi-faceted interactions within a more open community structure. And, we want to leverage that on behalf of our community, and use it as a mechanism to broaden the reach of the conversations throughout the community of online practitioners across SUNY and beyond. Crowd sourcing information, facilitating networking and collaboration, and providing convenience and diversity are the keys improve engagement and reach.

Our online community platform is easy to use, diverse, and collaborative. Benefits include a range of features and functionality intended to capture and retain members, including a variety of member resources: an online platform for knowledge sharing, multiple social media channels for extended interactions, adjustable preferences, personalizations, and email notification settings, and options for various types of interactions and communications to assist members to easily search, locate, network, collaborate, participate, and share.

We have set the sunset date for the listserve for June 30th, giving everyone time to make this transition.
